PROPOSED MAJOR CHANGES TO POLICING GOVERNANCE
The Home Secretary intends to bring forward a White Paper on Police reform hat will outline a programme of wide-ranging reforms intended to drive quality, consistency and efficiently in policing to ensure it is set up to deliver for the public.
This includes plans to abolish the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) model at the end of the current term in 2028 and transfer police governance functions to Majors on Strategic Authorities wherever possible, or to elect local council leaders where it is not.
Where it is not possible to transfer PCC functions to Majors in this Parliament, they propose to create new local Policing and Crime Boards to bring local government leaders together to oversee the police force for an area.
The Home Office plans to bring forward legislation in the second session to make these changes subject to Parliamentary time.
I would like to wish all Parish Councillors a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year with family and friends.
Best Wishes
Lucille
